How do I remove hoappleid from managing my Family account in the App Store?

In my App store account, in a grayed out area in “personalized recommendations I can’t edit or click, it says, hoappleid manages my family account for this country/region. i have no family plan nor do i know what or who a hoappleid is.

I saw someone on Reddit mention this and it said “head of household” however I spoke with Apple Support and they had no idea what this was or how to remove it. Head of Household is incorrect, in other words. The issue was escalated but no one got back to me and it’s still there.

My phone has been acting weird too and it’s brand new. All of the suggestions provided in the 1.5 hours of conversation w/ Apple Support resulted in removal suggestions I had already performed. I did them all again and nothing removed it.

I’ve kept lockdown mode on for years, and this still showed up. Apple confirmed the term hoappleid is not associated with the most recent security rapid release patch.

Last night, (the security company I hired) an app I downloaded from the App Store to potentially help me with this, was somehow de-activated today without my knowledge. Also “Find My” turns itself on practically daily with no indication.

Please help if you can! Thank you!

(I tried to insert a screenshot but it’s not working.)

The sentence says, hoappleid is managing your Family in your country/region.

Yes the hohappleid message is common and as seen here, Apple Support claims they are aware and working on it. It does not mean your device is being managed either with a Family Plan or Profile. Other than seeing the message, it has not been linked to any other issues on a device.

The country/region for your Family is man… - Apple Community

Find My turning on is unrelated. I would check to see if you have other devices signed into your Apple ID at Settings > [name on top], and scroll to the bottom and see if you have other devices using your Apple ID.

I would be concerned about a security company you hired offering support, not sure what that may be.

The hohappleid message goes away when you turn on Family Sharing. You can try it yourself and after shutting off Family Sharing, the message comes back after a couple of minutes.

  • Go to Settings > [name on top] > Family Sharing
  • Tap Continue
  • Tap Done
  • Now when you view your Account Setting you will see the message is not there and Family Sharing is added under Country/Region.
  • Turn off by going to Settings > [name on top] > Family Sharing
  • Tap your Organizer name
  • Tap Stop Using Family Sharing, and confirm on the pop up.
  • After a couple of minutes the message will show up again when viewing Account Settings.

If I had to guess, I would suspect there would be a message when Family Sharing is on saying you cannot change your region, but for some reason it is showing that message when it is off instead.

When you post a screenshot with the caption that says how about the FaceTimes as evidence of an exploit, that is just completely false and happens quite frequently actually, especially following an update, and in every case I have seen posted here on these forums, the force restart always resolves the problem.

In addition, when you post on a thread were the OP is concerned about the phrase "hoappleid is managing your Family in your country/region" being in their account settings and concerned about an exploit, that as well is completely false and most users see the exact same thing. You probably have it as well if you look in the App Store and tap your user name in the upper right corner, then tap your Apple Account name on the top of the screen and look under Ratings and Review. It is a bug and goes away when you turn on Family Sharing.

You may need to create a new post if you are concerned about a different issue, but for the OP that had an issue with a sentence they saw on their device and wanted to know what it was and if it meant their device was being managed by someone, that answer is NO. Others can verify that is true on their device as well.

I have reviewed the Am I Secure? app you referred to. The first thing to note is there is no possible way an app can scan your phone. Their message support, which likely required you to purchase, is nothing more than information commonly found for standard troubleshooting.

They do offer an extra service at an additional charge that claims to analyze your phone. This is done by sending them your Sysdiagnose log from your phone and is something you can do yourself and does not require any special tools or knowledge. The Sysdiagnose log does contain personal information you would not want to be sending to anyone other than Apple.

While I am hesitant to claim the app is an outright scam, it does profit off of the fear of its users. There are simply no viruses/malware that are active on the iPhone. If there was, it would be the top story of every news organization and not something revealed to you by a company you would be paying to tell you that. I do recommend to always keep your iOS up to date, because Apple is constantly reviewing any possible attempts for the security to be compromised and regularly provides security updates. A third party company is simply not going to be able to detect an exploit before it has been identified and closed by Apple.

The sole benefit is that users feel better after paying them and they confirm there is not problem with their phone. Log files are notoriously scary to view and can be used against you to make you think there is a problem. They contains terms such as "Root", "Pegasus", "RAT", that have nothing to do with a compromise and have a totally different meaning to Apple, although when seen by a user or pointed out to them, they can be led to believe that there phone has been compromised. If a company does lead you to believe there is a problem on your phone because of what they found there, then yes, they are scamming you and trying to make themselves relevant by claiming they are protecting you.

The one threat that gets the most attention is the Mercenary Spyware exploits, such as Pegasus. These exploits have a cost of close to a million dollars per device and would only be a concern to you if you are a high level government official or a specific target for the secretive information you may be in possession of. You would likely also be the subject of wiretaps on your cell provider and may even have agents viewing your physical activities. That is simply not the case for anyone we would find here and those users would be working with the FBI for resolution, not an Apple Support site. Even then, Apple is able to detect these exploits and notify you.

If you are referring to the hohappleid as in the Original post, then no that is not an exploit and is seen quite regularly on devices when not using Family Sharing.

For your screenshot, provide the path to get to the screen where you see the missing item and I would also recommend a Force Restart and compare your results.

It appears it is Siri you are missing on your Screen Shot. Normally when you turn Siri off, it will not appear on that screen. With the multiple FaceTime apps on your screen, it is apparent that you need to do a Force Restart to clean up the cache files. This may also remove the blank line in your screenshot or try toggling Siri in Settings.

When doing the Force Restart, it may take a couple of attempts to get the speed and sequence of the key presses correct and the last step of holding the side button until the Apple logo appears could take up to 15 seconds. Ignore anything else on the screen during that time.

Please post back the results.

brother i've done force restarts, soft restarts, esims, sims, carriers, numbers, new ids, reformatts, new password, new passcode, siri/no siri, new phones, the malware is embedded and ( my fault) it took me until now for learn that i can't log in a new device with the same apple id, or phone number associated with the compromised ID. weve gotten side tracked. force restart didn't work. didn't mean to hyjack. people need to be aware it's 2024 apple products are some of the most secure devices out there but there is the human error in all this and anything can be maliciously compromised.

Thank you for the peace of mind! I’ll be patient and see what happens. It slightly concerns me that the response provided in the screenshot (in the above link), showing a supposed Apple Support text response, is prior to the date I called Apple Support and they didn’t have this info, even after sending a screenshot and 1.5 hours of discussion, as well as the community contributor is new to the Apple Community page but is a level 1, new user/contributor, and anyone can spoof a screenshot. Not saying they are being dishonest, I’m just skeptical. Also the screenshotted response says “this may come in the form of an update” which to me, reads “we don’t know what this is and therefore it’s a security issue worthy of sending a mass update and/or rapid response update. This would indicate hohappleid could be associated with my Find My issue, and others. Apple Engineers, call me. :) You JUST replaced both of my devices, both of which have issues already, and show an issue you’re currently

Regarding “Find My” Turning On/Off On its Own:

No devices are listed in Apple ID Settings > [name on top], only my information. No devices are listed at the bottom either, and Support confirmed they see zero additional devices listed associated with my Apple ID as well.

Find My always shows it’s “off,” on my Apple ID account page, but when I go to Privacy and Security > Location Services (off) > Share My Location (off) > “Find My IPhone (off), My Location (this device), Share My Location, when I click the Find My IPhone page, “Share My Location” toggle is turned on (and it should be off) and it quickly turns off on its own practically every time. When the toggle turns its off, or if it stays on, when I navigate to “Find My IPhone” on the next page over, it still shows it’s off, as well as Off in the Find My app.

I assumed this could be a System Settings issue so I’ve tried going to System Settings to check and no System Settings page comes up unless I turn on Location Settings. When turning on Location Settings to On, Find My toggle is switched to On, even though every page and the Find My app says it’s off.

(Is Location Settings / Lockdown Off a typical requirement in order to see Location System Settings?)

Regarding the App/ Security Company Mentioned:

Apologies, let me clarify, the app owners did not offer to help with this hohappleid issue.

They suggest working with Apple, as well as all of the same prevention methods Apple suggests, with the addition of Lockdown Mode staying on, not making website configuration exceptions in lockdown mode page unless it’s absolutely necessary in order to perform a vitally important task, using Safari, with all security measures Apple provides turned on, and when the task is complete, turn the configuration setting off and restart your device.

The App name listed in the App Store is “Am I Secure?” They have another for Organizational support. Let me know your expert opinion, please! I only asked them via Private Email relay if they’re familiar with the hohappleid issue I’m seeing in my account and have found others stating they see it too.

UGH…

As I write this, (and this has gone on awhile, way before this app download, they aren’t responsible for said issues, too new) the volume of my haptic typing is going up and down and screen brightness is going darker, despite the phone being plugged in and battery at 47%.

In My Experience, Factory Resets Don’t Fix Issues That Get Past Lockdown Mode.

If I need to factory reset after having this phone less than a month and keeping it in Lockdown Mode ever since I got it, factory reset will do little to nothing. This ain’t my first rodeo, hence why I looked up additional support beyond Apple. It sucks to have to do so, but it’s been necessary.

Thank you for all your help!

attached is the file path. missing item changes depending on remote (hackers) preferences. accessibility, switch control, menu items, top level, device, then the blank one. Also i should note when i try to check or uncheck apps for voice control to use no matter what i do if my screen is in an active overlay the apps stay checked, showing they can be used by voice control, pretty wild all the scripting. It's been like that since august so ios 17.0 i'm not here to prove to anyone what has happened to my devices. i have kernel, networking, user, etc. logs to read until your eyes bleed that back up my statements. just need someone willing to do something about it and to offer support and tell others that I believe what they are saying instead of shutting them down.... it's really not that far fetched. look up triangulation db malware... one expample.
