I cannot copy an fcpbundle

I have an WD Passport HDD that I used with a previous MacBook and it contains some old Final Cut Pro libraries that I need to get into. The drive won't let me write to it from the new MacBook (M2, 15.3.1). (I am NOT trying to solve that though at the moment and will just reformat it later.). Since I can't write to it, I can't open the files in FCP.

What I have tried repeatedly is to copy the fcpbundle to my internal SSD, but it errors every time:

The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50).

I have tried Finder as well as tar from command line. Is there a secret sauce to copy an fcpbundle, because I can copy other things from that drive just fine.
