hi, fox_m :)

woooohoooo!!!

thank you thank you! :)

if you're in the L.A area I will buy you lunch! :)

yes.

Open a Copy in Motion / Layers / Content / Title Group / Headline Text / Inspector / Text / Layout Controls / Paragraph / Auto Shrink “Off”

Publish & Save it with your own choice of Inspector Published parameters add a special name in Basic Text

I called mine Custom Basic Text

I don't have Text Block — when did that appear?

Anyway...

There are *four* different format/layouts for text in Motion for creating templates: Text, Paragraph, Scroll and Crawl.

One of the **options** for Paragraph Text (which Text Block uses) is Auto-Shrink. There are four options for Auto-Shrink: None, Left and Right, Top and Bottom and : ***To All Margins*** — which is what looks like is going on here. The smallest the text can get is 6 points. The largest will be whatever you set for the Font Size.

If you have Motion, you can Right-Click on the title and Open in Motion. Find the Text object, go to the Layout Tab and publish the Auto-Shrink option. You will be able to control how the font resizes (or doesn't) with this parameter when you resize the "text block".

Dragging the text in the viewer does not change the font size - or at least it's not supposed to. This is not a behavior that I have ever heard of.

Are you seeing the font size change in the Inspector?

Try resetting Final Cut Pro's settings, as this is not intended behavior.

To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting the application and click Delete Custom Settings. The application will start with default settings and open an "Untitled" library. Adjust the settings, reopen the library you were working, and see how it works now.

What title are you using? Does the same happen with Basic Title?

Did you try deleting the preferences?

When you say bounding box, are you talking about the Transform tool? Could it be that somehow the Scale (in thd Video Inspector) is being changed? I don’t know how that could happen while dragging but if it did it would explain why the text changes size even if the font size is not changing.

Could you illustrate with some screenshots?

thank you for your response, Luis :)

true. exactly, same here, havent seen this behavior ever until recently

the Font Size numerical value stays the same in the Text Inspector but in the Viewer the font size dynamically changes visually as i drag the bounding box

&, if i make a copy then paste the same Text clip to its own lane in the Timeline (option v) & drag the bounding box in the Viewer this changes the text size visually as well so that now there are two Text clips exist having different visually sized text, (not the desired behavior) — changes to a visually different size from the parent Text clip but leaving both numerical Text clip sizes unchanged in the Text Inspector.

visually the Text size changes in the Viewer but the Text Inspector does not reflect the numerical size changes

when batched to Compressor the whacked Text clips show the visually changed Text sizes when applying Format Settings to the Project so whatever FCP is changing with the bounding box in the Viewer this is carrying over to Compressor as well

i have Delete(d) Generated Library/Event All from Library/Event Quit Final Cut Pro, shut down MBP but this behavior still exists, also made new Library, Event & Project but this issue still is manifesting

thanks again

i am using Text Block

Basic Title does not have the bounding box feature

“Did you try deleting the preferences?”

i will reboot into macos into SafeMode first & Disk Utility/DiskFirstAid/Repair Permissions

if this does not fix it i will then delete fcp preferences

“When you say bounding box, are you talking about the Transform tool?”

no. the Transform tool will change the entire text ie smashes or stretches the text, i am only wanting to recompose the Text Box leaving the text size unchanged to fit the space in the aspect ratio of the movie

“Could it be that somehow the Scale (in thd Video Inspector) is being changed?”

no. this occurs with Fit to window & %

“Could you illustrate with some screenshots?”

yes. once i deliver a project i am working.

thank you, Luis :)

correction i should have typed Text Box not bounding box,

this also happens with the Text box,

these are the vanilla Final Cut Pro Installed Titles not third-party

here are the screenshots->

https://www.victorfoto.com/up/text-box-3.jpg

i went into Safe Boot, DiskUtility/FirstAid, this fixed a few things

restarted macos Sequoia

restarted Final Cut Pro

issue still there

i will delete Preferences

thank you, Luis :)
