Is this an Apple Pay scam?

I believe this is a scam. I received a similar message.

If you see an Apple Services charge you don't recognize on your Apple Card - Apple Support

I got hit by the Apple Pay scam texting -- and these guys are actually answering that 888 number and insisting they're Apple

You may report the scams to the FTC Complaint Assistant and to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center

If they’re not reported, certainly nothing will be done.

Got the same message:

Warning Message: A charge of $173.45 was made via Apple-Pay at AppleStore If this is incorrect, Contact AppleSupport 1-88***619

I just got that one too and stupid me called and followed some directions I might be screwed huh. I removed the app so hopefully they don’t have access anymore

It is a scam. Do not give scammers any money! Contact Apple at this email address: reportphishing@apple.com

Can you also report pfishing texts to apple pay? I got one from 9**-8**-***3 and I don't even use Apply pay for anything....telling me to call Apple Support at 8**-5**-***6

they have you download an app that gives them access to your phone. Then ask you to call another number for their tech support that’s when I knew I screwed myself and undid their access stuff! I better start changing passwords though I am sure!

Just had the same thing happen. Called the number and got an Indian accent from a call center. I gave him the order id # and he asked for my name so I just said “if you have the order ID number and can view my account you should be able to see my name and Apple ID, correct?” “Sir I just need your name” “how did you see I was charged $177 to my Apple ID if you can’t see my name?” Then he hung up. Never heard of a support operator hanging up mid call….

Answering the number and claiming to be Apple is the whole point of those scams where they attempt to get your Apple ID/Password. It also alerts them that you are susceptible to being scammed if you call back, so you will get more of them.

Simply never call a number or click a link provided in an email/message and provide any personal information. Problem solved! Verification of any message is always possible by dealing with the company/financial institution directly with known contact info, not one they send you to use.

I had the same experience. I took it a little farther and they directed me to go to the apple store and get an app called ConnectWise Control then started walking me through a log on proceedure. She said it was so I could connect to the Apple security server. All along the way I was asking questions. We even got disconnected a couple of times and she kept calling me back. It was not very long after I asked her why calls were coming in as "potential scam" the she got irrate with me and accused me of wasting her time. That was pretty rich, I told her I would quit waisting her time if she promised not to call me back and ended the call.

Just like all other posts, that is a scam as well. Nothing unusual. You would never call a number in such a message anyway, so just like with all the others that attempt to scare you and request that you call a number they provide, delete and move on with your day.
