Sequoia asking for password for each thing I do

Just got a new iMAC and the OS (Sequoia) is requesting I renter my unlock every time the machine sits idle for a few minutes. Also when I open Safari and Mail. How do I turn off the persistent need for password entry? The older iMACnever did this. They only required a password entry when I rebooted.

Auto fill—

Are you using iCloud Passwords(?)

>System Settings>Lock Screen

other possibilities—

no insight—

even though the Password.app has replaced the Keychain Access.app — I would see if the lock is unlocked here:

use your Spotlight search to open

If your Mac keeps asking for your keychain password - Apple Support

is Touch ID involved—
