In People you can see All or a Summary. Frankly, I don't understand the "summary," anyway. Here's my wife's summary:

Which 1200 pictures (or whatever) that are called the summary is decided by Apple's AI algorithm. It's provided as a helpful convenience, and, like other social views, it can't be changed. If it's not helpful, we just don't look at it.
If you would like your own selection of summary pictures, you can make an album and put whatever pictures in it that you want. So you get it both ways--an album that Apple makes and one that you make. Yours will be better!
