not able to delete empty time gap left by duplicate clip ,?

Hi,

I have a clip in my timeline. I had made a duplicate clip of it added some adjustments to the duplicate clip but now I deleted the adjustments and I could delete the duplicate clip but it still has a grey empty space in the timeline in the place of the duplicate clip. How do I delete it ? Why I can't seem to delete it ?

Tom, what seems weird in the OP's screenshot is that nothing seems to be in the primary at that point - so, it is like these clips are connected to nothing.

There are these "stems" indicating a connection, but no clip in the primary...

I have no idea how that came about.

Watching the tutorials that Tom recommended is excellent advice. To quickly fix to your current problem, right-click on the clip and choose Overwrite to Primary Storyline, or choose Edit > Overwrite to Primary Storyline, or press Option-Command-Down Arrow. Or you can go into Position mode by pressing the 'p' then move the clip. Be sure to hit the 'a' key when you're done to get back the default editing mode. All of this is covered in the tutorials.

Post a screenshot of what you’re seeing where.

Screenshot, please.
Did you duplicate it as a connected clip, or is it still in the Primary Storyline?
Can you select the grey area and delete that (gap clip)?

Here you go guys attached is the screenshot.

I don't remember if I duplicated it while both of them being connected. But the fact is now neither can I unclip both, nor can I delete the black timeline gap.

No, you can’t. That’s the primary storyline. It’s the basis of the application, and the central component of the application’s GUI. You’ll notice that the clips below it are attached to whatever is on the primary storyline, in this case a blank clip.

For an excellent introduction to FCP start with Steve Martin’s 60 minute intro.

For a more in depth introduction use the Izzy video tutorials. The version is a bit dated but the principles are the same.

Doing right click and then selecting Overwrite to Primary Storyline brings the bottom clip at the top and the empty gap clip at the bottom but I can't still delete the empty gap clip?

Yeah, at this point I'd put the playhead at the start of the Timeline, the zoom in as much as possible, be sure there's not like a 1 frame gap clip. I've seen that happen before, a lot time ago. Can't hurt to verify.

Let me understand what you are saying, so you are saying there is this white line and a red line in on the clip try to bring the white line at the start of the clip and then ? Then try deleting empty time gap clip? is that what you mean ?

Place the playhead at the start of the Timeline.

Use Command and + to zoom in to that spot as much as you can.

Post a screen shot of that.

A clip of 1 or 2 frames will not show up if you're zoomed out to far.

Not sure what you mean by white and red lines. Post a screenshot.
