iPhone 16 Pro not receiving group text messages

I upgraded to the iPhone 16 Pro about a month ago and started noticing that I am NOT getting 99% of my group text messages. I have spend 12+ hours on the phone with Verizon support or Apple support and no one can resolve my issues. I have reset the network, hard reset my phone, turned off RCS, I have even swapped out phones. The problem still persists. Is anyone else having this problem? Is it just me?

Verizon had to resynchronize my MMS.

i could not do any group text with that included at least 1 android phone. It took me 4 hours of internet searching, a phone call with Apple, and two phone calls to Verizon. I had to specifically ask Verizon to check my MMS to be sure I wasn’t blocked, then finally they thought to resynchronize MMS. Tremendous waste of time for me. If you call your carrier, be sure to ask directly about MMS blocking and / or resynchronization or else they might not think of it.

Update to my post from last night: Problem was successfully resolved. Employees at Verizon store were at first unable to even grasp what the problem was and when they finally did and I asked them about resynchronizing MMS they were unable to do that. They had me call Verizon Tech support (phone: 611). At first I got only automated voice tree menu, but eventually I just answered with "talk to a human" and reached a human assistant. They fixed stuff on their end and had me turn phone off for 5 minutes and turn it back on. They eventually called me back and when I tested it with new group text from Android user it worked and I received the text. It's useful if you have a second phone on hand to communicate while phone is turned off.

TLDR: If you have Verizon, call 611 (Verizon tech support), ask for human assistant in answer to automated prompts. If possible have a second phone available.

I got a new iPhone 16 Pro about 2 weeks ago. It was a bit of a fiasco as my information didn’t all transfer as seamlessly as when I got the 13 Pro three years ago. The rep couldn’t get the new phone to duplicate, and when I finally signed into my iCloud, I got everything that was backed up there, but not a duplicate of my old phone. For example, I had to download several apps I use for banking and bills. Kind of a pain.

Then I noticed that I wasn’t getting group messages, and even when my group tried to send me messages, they wouldn’t come through.

Here is what I did to fix it:

I typed messages into the settings search bar, went into messages and turned on “Send as Text Message. Then turned off and on MMS and RCS, and two weeks worth of group messages came through.

It seems to be working now.

So, I contacted Apple and together, we were able to determine the issue with group messages.

My problem was VPN. If it’s connected, I have the issue. Otherwise, I disconnect it and there is no longer the group texting issue.

I hope Apple fixes this. A lot of people use VPN.in the meantime, disconnect your VPN while texting in a group.

I hope this helps you. :)

I too had issues with my 16 pro max of receiving group texts, I could send group texts messages and they would receive it, but I would not be able to get their response. So I checked massage app turned off and on the mms and then rebooted the phone then turned off the RCS then turned it back on it reset I got back all of my group texts strange thing

like this is happening with apple phones the issues now I am wondering if anyone may have sent me text messages I had also issues with sending single text messages I found out my friend said that it either shows as my email or it says it MAYBE: my name so they think it’s a scam so they would delete it I had to go into my settings to change it to my priority phone number as it was changed to email after the update of apple it’s like the upgrade went through the phone to put it in their settings

Both my husband and I had the same issue after switching from Android phones to iPhone 16, i.e. could not receive group messages originated by android users and could not see responses to our group messages from any android users. We went to our service provider and they tried all the usual suggested fixes including network reset. Nothing worked. I tried various combinations of

settings, shutting down and restarting, etc to no avail. As a last resort I forwarded messages to my iPad just to see if I could get any of my group messages. Voila!! My iPhone suddenly started receiving group messages! And for some reason, my husband’s iPhone started working, too. We were not able to retrieve our group message history, but at least group messaging is working from this point forward. Don’t know why this fixed the bug, but it might work for somebody else who is at their wits end like we were.

Hello, A couple of weeks ago i deleted two group conversations that I was having the same problem. Then I went to a Verizon Store where they factory reset my iPhone 16. They did the factory reset except for the cellular network. I began receiving messages from everyone in both group conversations and still receiving them today. My iPhone is on 18.4. Definitely an Apple issue. Good luck with your iPhones.

I’ve been having the same problem since getting my iPhone 16 Pro Max (along with the other common issues of reels freezing and touchscreen unresponsiveness— which makes swipe-typing, my go-to, next to impossible).

This was happening consistently with a thread with one Android user, so, I just piled more hate on my sister and her phone. However, it just happened last week with a thread of all iOS users.

This is 100% in Apple issue, not a network problem, as we have T-Mobile, not Verizon, and are having the same issues.

I can’t believe more people aren’t on here, complaining about it. I keep waiting for an update that will finally fix it. None of the suggestions online have been helpful. No, Chad, I hadn’t thought of turning my phone on and off, checking for updates, or making sure I had a strong WiFi connection.

I never thought I’d miss my iPhone 12.
