Difference between 'Clear' and 'Trash' in iPhone 16 Mail App

My iPhone 16 in the mail app has the option to “clear” an email. How does this differ from “trash”?

It seems only certain types of emails have the “clear” option. This one is a security code email. Just wondering what the difference is between clear and trash?

This is not part of Apple Intelligence. It's an update to the mail program in iOS 18. Apple has stated that it will roll out to iPad OS and MacOS in the future.

I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and my wife has an iPhone 12 mini, neither can run Apple Intelligence, but we both have the updated mail app with categories. My M-series iPad, M-series desktop and M-series laptop are all Apple Intelligence capable, but none of them have the updated mail features.
