Message Delivery Issues after iOS 18.1.1 Update

iPhone 15. After update to iOS 18.1.1 texts won't deliver randomly, calls won't come through, internet browser works intermittently (Safari). I asked Apple Support for help. They had me hard reset the phone. Then the network settings. Then all the settings. Didn't work. Then my phone told me I was no longer signed in to Apple ID and iMessage. I got logged back into those but still the internet would only load pages randomly, some messages will go and some wont to both other iPhone and android users, and when my mom calls me from her iPhone the call drops and then she can't call back. Apple support had me run a device diagnostic which told them all was well. Then they signed off the chat as if that was it because the device is supposedly fine. Here for any ideas. I wish I could go back to 17.

UPDATE: It didn't stay working, so I called apple tech support. The first two people couldn't help, one couldn't even understand the problem and the other was having her own technical problems. But then I spoke to Craig, a senior technical support advisor who was extremely patient and helpful!! He walked me through resetting numerous settings just to be extremely thorough, and this has seemed promising. It's now been over 5 days without a problem, and while I'm aware that it could come back, this is the best solution I know of.

I don't remember the exact order of steps he had me follow, but this should be pretty close.

  1. I deleted the contact from my phone and all apple devices. I also permanently deleted the contact from my email account too.
  2. Turned off iMessages. Also turned off messages in iCloud on all my devices.
  3. Deleted, and the permanently deleted all conversations with the contact in question on all my devices.
  4. Reset my network settings, and restarted all my devices.
  5. There may have been one or two other small things that we did as well just in case, but I can't remember what those were. Or that may have just been seeing what my settings were.
  6. Undid everything (except for deleting the conversations, those are just lost). It took a good 25 minutes for my text to re-sync to my other iCloud devices, so really hoping I don't have to go through that again.

I suddenly had messages going through as SMS rather than iMessage (which cost me as I text people abroad) - messages usually in blue turned to green. I finally worked out - go to settings - apps - messages - open “send and recieve” and under “start new conversations from” make sure your Apple account email is selected and not your phone number. Now I want Apple to reimburse me because this happened after iOS update - I had no prompt that I needed to do this and am pretty furious I’ve been charged 10 quid for “texting” my Mom when it’s always automatically gone through as iMessage.

I was struggling with this same issue for weeks since I updated to iOS 18.1 but was able to resolve it with my carrier’s (T-Mobile) customer support today. Basically they had to “reset” my network. They walked me through the settings and other things to do, and they reset my network connection on their end. This fixed this issue in an instant. So I recommend calling your carrier for support.

Ever since the newest update came out, my texts messages are messing up! Doesn’t show new messages, says I have some and I don’t. Shows I sent a message months ago but doesn’t show the latest one I sent. Some that I saved, aren’t even there and doesn’t send messages sometimes. I need to back to prior update. Apple, do ANOTHER update that fixes these issues!!

Have you found a fix for this? I’m haveing the exact same issue! I deleted all email addresses from my wife’s contact then attempted to message her number and it tries creating a new message string and keeps acting like it’s sending but doesn’t. Then you look in the normal string and it’s there and sent, but the normal string is listed under her email.

We both have IMessages set to send and receive from only our phone number.

I have had all of these issues occur plus my phone now will not connect to CarPlay in my 2023 Outback and couldn’t send emails from my work email. I also use my phone as a life-sustaining medical device (CGM). I spent a total of 5 hours on phone and two separate 2.5 hour visits to the Apple Store for techs to work on it. The last one said simply to delete my Apple account and that’s the best he could suggest, then walked on to other customers as I’m near tears. So I await my new phone from not Apple for the first time since I bought the very first iPhone. iOS 18 never should have been released this unstable.
