Time Machine - Setup 2nd drive for most recent backups

I have an external Time Machine HD that is almost full. I'd like to add another SSD and use it for the most recent backups.

Can I specify that current BUs are to be stored on the SSD, not the HD?

Thanks!

Never, never backup to the HD. If that drive fails you will loose everything. As I understand it, when a drive is full, Time Machine will then begin overwriting the older backups. If you wish to save them all. then delete the older backup disk then insert the new one and reset Time Machine's backup instructions to address the new disk.
