Getting rid of “shared with you” from photo settings

In photos you now have to click on your little round avatar in the top right hand corner to change some of the settings.

For some reason the first thing it shows is Shared with you with some photos that were shared with you.

Unfortunately my vet shared some photos of a nasty injury with me. I don’t want to delete them all together as they are part of my pet’s medical history. But I don’t want to keep seeing them all the time.

How do I get rid of it.

I am heartily sick of tech companies declining they should be the arbiters of what you see rather than you being able to choose for yourself.

I don't see an option for that, either. You can Reset Memories or Pets in Settings>Apps>Photos, but not Shared With You, apparently. I sympathize…

For sensitive pictures like that, I mark them as Hidden. You can put them in an Album first, to keep them together, and then select all and hide them. They'll disappear in the album and everywhere else until you unhide them in the Hidden view.

Let's leave left Apple know about this:

This might work; I haven't got any shared photos so can't test it.

If you've got a Mac you could download them to a folder on the Mac, delete them from Photos, then synch them to your phone with Finder. The pics will appear in the "From my Mac" section of Photos on your phone.

If you've got a PC then this might also work, but I haven't got a PC so you'd have to test it first.

Thank you. Interestingly hiding them in the albumn I keep them in didn’t get rid of them. I think it must have been using some shared folder - although it didn’t show up in my shared albumn. Anyway I just deleted the photos and the whole widget has dissapeared but they are still in the folder I’d obviously shared them to. I have no idea what’s going on. It at least I’ve got rid of them without deleting them permanently.
