iPad Air 2 shuts off on its own even when it is fully charged

My iPad shuts off even when fully charged. YouTube videos suggest I download 3rd party software to fix it. Doesn't Apple have a solution for us customers? I am trying to figure out why my iPad Air 2 shuts off on its own even when it is FULLY charged. It shuts down after 15 or 20 seconds up to 2 - 5 minutes. Is this a software thing? Is it a bad battery? I see a lot of people with this problem but I don't see an Apple solution. We have a few iPads but this is the only one doing it...or is it only the 1st one and the others are going to do it as well??...

Hello again ~ Would you post back after you have it looked at and let us know? It adds to our knowledge and we can help others. Also perhaps you can send it in but you may want to actually invest in a newer model iPad….

Same symptoms I had when an iPad battery died young.

Check the CA version of this page to see if you qualify for a send-in option:

In the US, it goes to an Apple refurbishment facility and they return a fully refurbed iPad of identical specs as yours with a new outside shell and new battery. It may be possible cross-border, as the refurb centers are US based.

i took advantage of this service when my iPad 5 had a premature battery failure after the warranty expired. That web page offered me a ship-in option where I took the iPad to a UPS Store (5 mins from the house). When I arrived at the store, they already had notification from Apple that I was bringing it in.

This was on a Friday. They packaged it at no additional charge and shipped the same day. Apple received it early Monday and by EOB Monday they had the replacement iPad shipped. FedX delivered it to my door before noon on Wednesday.

Not bad for having a weekend inculded. I am well chuffed with the service and the replacement unit. The replacement was cosmetically perfect and now has 3 years hard service on the battery and is still going strong.

I should note that if you have an Apple-personalized iPad, the deal still applies. They re-engrave the replacement to match the original. It just means a little longer at the center.

TBH, I don't think this is a common thing.

My first thought goes to one of heat - shutting down for 2-5 minutes sounds to me like it's overheating and turning off to let the system cool, then powering itself back on again.

There could be different reasons for this. Does it happen consistently? Regularly? only when you're running specific apps?

It could by a physical problem with the iPad (either something is overheating, or a faulty temperature sensor that thinks it's overheating.

it could also be external - is the iPad in a case that's blocking the heat from escaping? are you using it on some padded/insulated mat or platform? The iPad expels heat through the back panel, so that could be a problem, even though most iPads don't usually run hot enough to be a huge concern.

As described, your iPad battery may have a fault, or may be reaching the end of its usable life. If the battery has failed or is failing, the iPad may unexpectedly turn-off - or may not successfully boot to a running state even when connected to its Power Adapter.

Are you able to use the iPad while remaining connected to your Power Adapter? If yes, while monitoring the indicated battery state, disconnect the Power Adapter; if the indicated battery state suddenly falls, or the iPad shuts-off, this test demonstrates the iPad battery having reached the end of its usable life:

It is happening constantly now. It typically shuts off within 15 seconds. Many times I am not able to open an app before it shuts down so it isn't tied to a particular app.

I don't believe that is overheating...well at this point for sure. The case is a clear case holding it and the cover folds 3 times to be an angled stand. Today I just noticed it is off and showing the 'dead battery' screen while it is still plugged in.

I guess it is pooched.
