Transferring specific files from Time Machine to new iMac

new imac, 1 Tb hard drive, when i connect my time machine to transfer files, it says too big after calculating. its over 2 Gb. how do i just transfer my photos and documents etc.

The wise thing to do is migrate everything then go back and move the data you do not want into the Trash. This will be the safest and fastest method. Prior to turning on the new machine, connect the Time Machine External Hard Disk. Then startup the new machine, it will get to a point where it asks if you want to migrate, select YES and follow the on-screen prompts. This will take 1-2 hours depending on the amount of data. Then go back and Trash what you don’t want.
