Contextual search opens in Safari, not the system-selected browser

After highlighting text and right-clicking to bring up a contextual menu, there is the option to "search Google for «selected text»".

The result of that is to open the search in a new Safari tab, regardless of what browser is selected as the system-wide browser of choice.

It should be fixed.

This is with the brand-new 2024 Mac Mini, and the freshly-updated Sonoma 15.1 (24B2083), but it isn't a new problem, and a very old proposed solution doesn't work.

We, you and I, Own the very niece M4 Mac Mini computer

We lease the operating system, macOS 15.1, from Apple

Somethings, like what you have described and I have also tried using Firefox set as Default Browser

It seems be hardwired into the Leased Operating System to work only in Safari

I can bemoan this apparent fact or move on with my life

I have chosen to move on

Lol, I agree. But "moved on" didn't prevent you from reading and replying, did it? 😉

Actually, no it did not

In the almost 20 years of excessively using Apple Computers and lately iPhone, iWatch and at one time, even an iPad ( short lived )

Apple has always done what is Best for Apple

Always has been and probably will remain unchanged going forwards

Quite a bit of what Apple does is gradually pushing me towards Linux and Android, but that would entail a lot of adjustments, so I keep hoping Apple will slow down into their evolution into the "Big Brother" that they assailed in that 1984 advertisement.

I'm not optimistic, and now that I've ranted, I guess I'll be "moving on" as well.
