Apple Watch 10 running watchOS 11.1. iPhone SE running iOS 18.1. Got up this morning 6 am and put watch on charger for about 90 minutes, having worn it all night. Checked step count in Health app this evening and amazed to see that between 6 am and 7 am while not wearing the watch it recorded 2,985 steps.

Did you check the Health App/Activities/Steps/ on your iPhone, which data source recorded the steps during the time the watch had been charging?
Ah ha! Thrive, which is the app that runs my hearing aids appears to
have lost its mind. I have disabled it from sharing with Health.
