I am running Mac OS Catalina, and in my upgrade list Sequoia but not Monterey. Why would my iMac be compatioble with Catalina and Sequoia but not Monterey?
Id like to update to Monterey.

If you want to update to an older version of macOS, you need to go through the links in this Support article. As you have discovered, Apple likes to hide old versions of macOS, by default.

If you do not want to update to Sequoia, I would recommend that you update to Ventura or to Sonoma. Monterey is no longer one of the "most recent three". This means that vendors such as Adobe and Microsoft will very soon drop support for it – if they haven't already.

You can run this command in the Terminal…
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 12.7.6
That will download Monterey into the Applications folder, however as mentioned, Monterey is no longer supported.
What "upgrade list"? Software update would only list the most recent compatible version of macOS. What year iMac do you have?
2022 I think. So how do I upgrade from Catalina to Monterey?
