Permanently Deleting Messenger Photos on iPhone and iPad

I have an issue with permanently deleting some photos on messenger. The photos in question have been deleted from the message thread, but still show on the ‘profile’ of the person i sent them to. When i click on the persons name, under the options to request or share location, i can see photos we have exchanged. Some I have been able to delete (and then also delete via edit on the main screen of messenger) but others seem to disappear but they don't!

Ive tried to delete them press and hold individual photos, then a delete option comes up, and also by using the select, delete option.

This is an issue on my phone and ipad.. but different photos show on each! Its the same person, and message thread.

Any ideas to permanently delete them would be great!

So we're in Apple's Messages app. What do you mean by "others seem to disappear but they don't?" I pulled up a friend's profile and deleted a picture, and it seems gone.


I think you are describing long-touching to get a pop-up menu and choosing, delete-- is that right?

Then I get either Delete Link or Delete Attachment. When I tap that, the picture goes away.


What happens for you?

I am doing just what you describe, and initially it looks as if the photos have deleted. But when I exit the profile and then go back into it, I’m finding that sometimes the photos have delete, but others are still there. I know I need to also delete the photos via Edit on the main messages view. The photos that won’t delete do not appear there.

I find the same when I use the select / delete option.

Any ideas are welcome!
