Super Drive A1379 compatibility
I'm not able to get my old Super Drive A1379 to be recognized on my 2023 M3 iMac that only has USB-C ports. I'm using a Hiearcool UCN3610 hub to have USB3.0 ports. Clues?

Is this hub powered (enough), to be able to give power to USB devices that need that?
USB-C to USB-A adapters do work for slimline optical drives that do not have their own power supply. Hubs may be different.
My slimline optical drive (Pioneer) uses about 8 mA over USB for reading discs, so not much, but the power has to be there.
Yup… kramsirrah, hub /dock HAS to be powered or SuperDrive must be plugged directly into your 2023 M3 iMac.. also, you have to insert a cd/dvd into the drive … otherwise if it’s plugged in… “About this Mac”>> “Hardware”>> USB and of course under Finder prefs… make cd/dvd’s show up… don’t hide ‘em..

Hubs don’t work for the SuperDrive. It must be plugged directly into a port on your iMac. All you need is a usb-a-to usb-c adapter and you can use one of the usb ports on your iMac. The adapters are really inexpensive.
