USB adaptor with SSD for New iMac

Traded old 2013 Desktop for a new 2024 iMac, and needed multiple adaptors for USB, sd cards, etc. Bought a multi adaptor, (USB C Hub for iMac 24 inch 2021/2023/2024, Minisopuru iMac USB Hub Support M.2 NVMe SSD, iMac Accessories for iMac M1/M3/M4, iMac USB Adapter with USB A/C 10Gbps, SD/TF, M.2 SSD) in addition to the ports, it supports a high speed SSD. Since I am using this just for the adaptors, is purchasing and using the SSD card necessary?

Also, If I understand it, the SSD is just for additional storage, and should I want to use it, I would need to buy the SSD card, and then when saving something, I would need to direct the item I want to save to this external device, is that correct?

Correct. It would appear in Finder as an additional hard drive or storage device.

You don't need to put an SD card into the hub if you don't want to. You could use that option on the hub if you have an SD card that you wanted to access from the Mac or if you wanted to save something from the Mac to an SD card. But there is no reason to put an SD card in the hub if you don't want to use a card for something -- the job will work fine to use the hub for the other adapters and leave the SD port empty.
