When I import copied text (from text edit plain format) I must often select delimited, and then remove the comma setting and then update the table. Is there a way in which to set delimited without comma as my default setting in order to avoid all of these repetitive selections?

I don't think there is a way to define a default in Numbers.
Don't have any specifics about the format of the data you are importing but you might try experimenting with different formats on the source (i.e. TextEdit) side to see if they require lest adjustment in Numbers.
