Any new items on the desktop, or trying to move any items on the desktop are all jumping to the top right corner. I've seen tons of people have been having this issue for over a year?? I did get a work around by turning off the "snap to grid" that seems to be working for now, but I also want the clean look of snapping to the grid. Any ideas on how to fix this for real?
I realize this option works without snapping to grid, however, I am looking for an actual fix so I can use the "snap to grid" feature again. I do have the "none" option selected right now.
I simply want it to work the way it was for the past 10 years, where I don't have to organize by a name or date or anything like that, but can still make the items snap to grid.
You have all those other options below "Name" you can use. Like Kind, Date Last Opened, etc, etc. The only reason it is check off on Name is because that is the way mine is set up. I don't clutter my Desktop with files and folders.

So which does the user want ?
Organize as they desire or Snap to Grid
If your View option is set to Sort By > Snap to Grid you can move items to any location you desire and the item will snap to the grid. Any new items created however will appear in the first available location in the top right corner of the Desktop. Any new items created though can be moved by dragging to a different location.
You used to be able to do both?? I don't want to have to organize the files by name or date, I want to be able to put them into the order that I want them in, but I want them to snap to the grid. This worked fine for the last 10 years why is it suddenly not working now???
Choose you option on the desktop. Right clicking on a lot of things on a Mac brings up a host of other options.
Thank you for trying to help!! I don’t want it sorted by name though, I have my desktop grouped together in a specific layout, and want it to stay that way, just snapped to grid.
The Choose " None "
It now falls upon the User ( you ) to organize the Desktop as the User ( you ) choose it to be or not be.
Items on desktop go to top right corner
