ATV Dropping internet intermittently; so frustrating!

My Apple TV is connected to an android tv to display photos. At random times, every minute or two, it drops out with a "lost internet connection" message and we have to navigate to the iPhotos again. Sometimes this is right back to the TV menu, sometimes just to the menu above. The ATV has updated iOS and is 5m from the internet amplifier. Any suggestions would be welcome!

This sounds like a poor internet connection where the Apple TV is located. I am not talking about the speed of your Internet connection, I am referring to its signal strength. The further the Apple TV is away from your router the weaker the signal. This can be made worse if you have a 2 story home with the router on one floor and the Apple TV on another floor or the construction materials used to build the home or just how far the router is away from the Apple TV.

The basics to try are to unplug your modem and router from their power source for 2-3 minutes and then restart, then do the same with the Apple TV and finally test. If the problem persists then you need to test the signal strength using a tool like iStumbler.

Also make sure you are using a dedicated 5Ghz band on your router. Dual band routers broadcast both 2.4 and 5Ghz on the same SSID and your ATV is likely connecting to the 2.4Ghz band. This band is too congested with other devices and causes frequent drops in connectivity. Instead create a WiFi network that is only 5Ghz and connect your ATV and other compatible devices to that network and forget the other network it previously connected to.
