Which browser and version are you using, on which OS version, and which model laptop?
Apple generally advises to use the latest software version available, that your device supports. This helps to support newer features and enhances security. Apple’s (re-designed) webpages may use features that older browsers do not support.
Apple recommends the latest version of Firefox or Chrome for PCs. That is also good advice for older Mac computers that do not support the Apple TV app (bundled software), as Safari (bundled software) isn’t updated anymore when later OS versions are not supported anymore.
We were using google chrome,
That is fine. 👍
… (and we thought it was updated), not sure which version,
Many browsers default to auto-update. If you didn’t turn that off, then that would likely be active. If you never quit the browser app, then updates may not have been applied previously.
See here for an online easy check: https://www.whatismybrowser.com/, where the website tells you what it found out about the browser that visited the site, starting with the version number.
The current Chrome release version is v130.0.6723.84 (for Windows, macOS, Linux). Version 130 for short.
… not sure what OS is
OS: Operating System, e.g. Windows, macOS, or Linux for computers, Chrome OS for Chromebooks, Android or iOS for smart phones.
Those will have a version as well. E.g. Windows 11-24H2, macOS 15.1 Sequoia, Linux Mint 22, Chrome OS 16033.43.0, Android 15, iOS 18.1.
… it is a year old, not sure model.
A one year old device couldn’t be much outdated yet. At this time, I am beginning to suspect that the initial notification message itself was in error, or not a message from the Apple TV+ website (but instead from the browser itself, or from a browser extension (plugin).
If your browser software version is up-to-date, then that notification about wanting to update is unexpected and kind of weird. Please consider contacting the Apple Support staff for their advice.
We were using google chrome, (and we thought it was updated), not sure which version, not sure what OS is …….lol, and it is a year old not sure model. We will look all that up in the next couple of days and answer you back. Thank you
Your attention, time and information is so appreciated. Thank you, thank you. It helps so much just to understand the bigger picture even though we haven’t solved it yet. 🙂. We will go to: where is my browser, first and then maybe apple support. I want to let you know what we find out so I will get back to you. Thanks again.
