Old iMac Fusion drive failed after erasing it before trade in

I ordered a new iMac (M3) and planned to trade in my old 2019 iMac (fusion drive). After I used Recovery mode and erased the disc, I tried to reinstall the Mac OS but the system said the drive was faulty and needed to be replaced. Do I still send the old computer back but expect that I won't get the anticipated trade-in value? I tried disk repair. It said disk repair complete but it didn't change the message that the drive was faulty. I never had a problem with the Fusion drive before.

You can be sure you won't get what you were quoted, to be honest a non-working Mac after you reported it as working will likely get you $0.00. If you want to get something for it, have the failed Fusion Drive replaced by your local Apple Authorized Service Provider and then do another trade in or sell it privately. Whatever you do, once it is running please prepare per the directions in What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac before trading it in or selling it privately.

Sounds like just bad luck and lousy timing. Sorry to hear the Fusion Drive failed.

FYI, I took my iMac in to the Apple Genius Bar. Since they were able to get it to boot into the Recovery mode, they accepted it for the full trade-in value. They also handled the return of the computer for me. So not only did I get the money on the spot, I didn't have to haul it back home, pack it up and send it in. THANK YOU, APPLE
