MacOS Crashing LaCie Hard Drives

Over the past month or so, I’ve had two LaCie 2big RAID external drives fail. The problem is similar to that discussed under Sonoma crashing LaCie hard drives - Apple Community. These were connected to a Mac Studio running first Sonoma (first crash) and then Sequoia ( 2nd crash). The first failed drive was under warranty (and is the hands of Seagate for data recovery attempt), and was replaced (eventually). The replacement lasted barely a week before it failed. Is this a LaCie problem or, as implied by the earlier referenced conversation, a macOS issue?

It's hard to answer your question. I have had excellent success using LaCie drives. I have several. That did, I have found that most drive manufacturer's send out drives which ae equipped with their 'maintenance app'. These always cause problems and should be removed and never used. I recommend first using Disk Utility to properly reformat the drive before using it, never any so-called maintenance app.

I concur about the so-called 'maintenance apps', including the one that LaCie distributes, with (at least) one exception. I've used the LaCie included app to set up the initial RAID 1 configuration of my 2big RAID. If Seagate sends their promised replacement, I'll use Disk Utility to do that instead.

Nonetheless, the referenced link/discussion seems to suggest a more common problem with macOS crashing external hard drives.
