iOS 18 Photos Text Color Issue

However I find another solution. If you click on markup and do text. Highlight text and click the format button. There you can change color and edit. It’s works. But still a glitch in apples system. Thanks.

I found out how to fix it. Actually, it’s not fixing it. It’s an extra step you have to take. Once you choose the color, there will be a circle with all of the colors in it hold down on that for one second and the outer ring will disappear Once you do this you will be able to use the color you chose

I have the same issue. After I add the text box I try to change the font color and at first the menu will come up for the size, color, etc. But once I try to change the color the color wheel will open and then immediately close. After I try it the first time the text font box that I previously had opened will do the same thing. This is a really annoying bug that will be a very simple fix.

*Update*

I just found that if I change the text color after I type the text in the text box that it will allow me to change the text color. This is still an annoying bug that will give many people problems, especially older people without much tech knowledge.

WORK AROUND…🤷‍♀️ but worked ..Choose a markup tool. Tap the pencil; change color, next draw something & save; go out revert to original; back in same photo & add text & change color worked ✌️💙

elayna81, do these steps below. It's a permanent fix and only needs to be done once:

• Open your photo and click the 'edit' icon.
• Click the "markup" icon at top-right (looks like the tip of a pen).
• Select the pencil-eraser icon at the bottom.
• Tap your photo.

Now you should be able to click the + icon and add text, change font colors, and edit normally.

So I discovered that when you hit the “+” to add text, then hit the “Aa”, that’s when you can select the color.

Same issues here. Had a 12 Pro, updated to iOS 18, immediately noticed that changing text color in markup wouldn’t work, almost as if the color screen was force closing. It fixed itself for a couple days, then the same issue came back. My husband has a 14 Pro, my son has a 14, and their markup works just fine. I just upgraded to a 16 Pro since I was eligible for an upgrade and my 12 Pro became so laggy. I have the same issues with markup with my 16 Pro as I did with my 12 Pro, so it’s not a phone issue. The issue seems very user specific, but I do think it’s an issue with iCloud. I can save a photo to my files, open up the photo within the files app, and markup works just fine. It does not work through the photo app.

A workaround that works for me :

As soon as you’re in markup, hit the eraser and hit the photo.

Then it’s back to normal, no more issue.

Thank you! This finally worked, but what a LONG way around to get it to work. Per your instructions, everything worked as stated but I then I had to select the text then touch the "Aa" button that appears in the floating screen that has the trash can, etc., click the color dot and THAT changes the color to what you chose in the Format screen. I'm exhausted!

Developers: just let us change the color with the tool that first shows up to select what type of pen you want that has the color dot on the right! Press that, change color, press Aa, press the color dot and presto-chango. Then we (the users) won't have to go on a treasure hunt just to change text color!!

İ just tried it, İ mean editing the photos with editing tools in photos. Didn’t work, the same problem.

But if you edit the photos in Notes, by importing them to Notes, it “ works”. You can change the letter colours as you wish!

The post from Reddit worked for the most part. Photo will crash if you tweak text color and size too much. Basically, set size using new size option THEN change color.

This helped me, but it’s still aggravating the amount of additional steps one must take to get this to function that way it should work without jumping through extra hoops, especially on a brand new phone. I was hoping after I was able to get it done once, that it would work as intended afterwards, but it doesn’t. Each new image you have to try and select the font, attempt to change the color, reselect the font again, then go through the Aa area again and pick the color you want. It unselects the font again lot though so it takes a few tries to get it how you want it.

Now if I could get my stickers to work, I’d really be happy. I’m so disappointed this hasn’t been fixed yet. It will do a similar thing to the font color of trying to pull up a sticker and will disappear in about 1/2 seconds.

Temporary solution. The text colour can be changed by clicking the text box and clicking the Aa icon; this does allow you to change the colour, but it is long winded 🤓👍🏻
