Can’t ID plants in photos after iOS 18.0 update

I’ve got an iPhone 13 pro. I upgraded the iOS to 18.0 a few days ago. Took photos of plants yesterday and I’m not shown the leaf when I access the info button on the new photos nor on any of the older ones where earlier I had been able to use the phone to get an ID (even if occasionally it was wrong). I hope someone knows how to get this function back.

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 18

OK, I figured out the problem. I was searching for "show related content" in the search bar. You have to instead scroll down to the "search" entry in the list (between home screen and Siri), click on that, and then you'll see the "show related content" button. Turn that on and it works.

I love that visual ID stuff. It works for me in iOS 18, but it took a day or two to catalog all the scans.

Check "Settings>Search>Show Related Content" and see if that's turned on.

How about Enhanced Visual Search-- is it turned on in Settings>apps >Photos? (Honestly, I don't know what these do-- but they sound relevant. Turning them on may still take time to work.)

RavynQ my 12 mini running iOS 18.1 started showing the "leaf" info icon under photos after I reenabled "Show Related Content" (see above comment) so I'm sure your 13 mini has the same capability. Maybe there is another setting that also needs to be enabled? Maybe you can find something that seems to be related in Settings->Camera or in Settings->Search->Camera. But at the very least maybe just shutdown and restart the phone to see if the problem resolves.

I also updated to 18.1.1 and my photos will not tell me the plant name anymore. I already have the "Ensure Show Featured Content and Enhanced Visual Search" on. I restarted my phone, I turned the settings off and on again. There is NO information in the (i) area for nam. I have an iPhone 14. I also do NOT see the show related content.

Any other ideas??

Thank you,

There are short explanations directly in the Settings.

  • Turning on "enhanced visual Search" will allow Apple to compare the locations found on your device to Apple's global index of locations, so you can search your photos for known famous buildings and other landmarks.
  • Turning on "Show Related Content" will allow the Photos.app to present the results of the AI in Photos in some collection, for example the Memories and suggested photos.
