Siri not responding on iPhone 16 Pro Max

As title says, Siri is not working. It only works if I press the side button, not by me saying "hey siri" etc.

I have turned siri off and back on again and done the 5 phrases to set it up and still nothing. I have changed the language, changed the voice, changed to prefer spoken response' and still nothing.

Obviously on IOS18.

Has anyone else had this issue because it is driving me mad. £1,400 for a phone and it doesn't work properly!

I went to settings>siri and tried everything suggested. Didn’t fix the problem. But when I went to settings> accessibility> Siri (at the bottom under “general”) and turned on “always listen for Siri” it fixed it. I also turned on “listen for atypical speech”. Sometimes I mumble so i figured it ight help to have on too. Hope this helps someone

Would you mind to update us after Sunday, if swapping the actual device does the trick? If so I want to do the same. All these "it worked for me" responses frankly aren't helpful. I've patiently done everything under the sun to troubleshoot the issue, and the best I can get is a temporary fix, no warning when the issue will persist again. It's borderline infuriating. Thank you!

I have always had mine on prefer spoken responses. I switched it to no spoken responses and then later back to prefer spoken responses, but it doesn't work. My husband's phone is having the same issue.

I'm glad it worked for you, though. Hoping a fix comes in soon. It appears that this has been going on for about a month now, seeing the dates of the posts, and they haven't fixed it, yet. :'(

@NolaMomOf2 That's a good idea, and it can work. And it's one of the things I tried. But...here I have a $1500 iPhone which doesn't work properly with Siri, and I have to butcher a function of the button to make it work maybe for a little while?I use both the button at times and voice, so it's really not an acceptable solution to basiclly disable one thing to make another work.

p.s. I am going to the Apple store tomorrow to get this replaced, and I will let people know if a new one has the same issues. I suspect it will have, but I have a right to a replacement within 14 days, so that's what's gonna happen.

Spending that much money on iPhone 16 Pro Max and having it fail at basic task that my iPhone 12 had no problems with ever is embarrassing.

I switched from a Windows and Android setup to all Apple seven years ago because I felt that it offered a better user experience. I am seriously contemplating switching back, as Apple ecosystem seems to just “doesn’t work” anymore.

My brand new Apple 16 Pro is also giving me trouble when verbally asking Siri to do something… I have turned the phone on and off/rebooted several times and at least once a week she decides to take a sabbatical. This ****** me off because I’ve never had a problem with my iPhone 11 and after five years, I decided to upgrade to this what they call enhanced Siri. What I call her as a dumb B…CH.

does anyone know if this is a problem with the OS or is it a problem with the 16 pro? Thank you.

Without a doubt the worst iPhone released yet. My 15 was almost identical, only difference is, it actually worked. This is worse than Malibu Stacey with a hat. Even when I can get Siri to respond, it then has no idea what I’m saying, I say ‘no’ it thinks I say ‘yes’ I don’t respond when it asks ‘what do I want to reply’ it then apparently thinks I say ‘what’ and wants to send that as a response. I asked it to call someone the other day it said getting directions to a some shop in another country. If anyone’s considering buying this phone. Don’t do it, save your money. Switching on & off works temporarily. Have tried all other suggestions and still nothing.

This is happening to mine and my partners iPhone 16! It is soooooooo frustrating especially when you’re driving and the phone is unresponsive. I’ve been in contact with apple twice about it and they can’t fix it - but clearly unaware there is a problem

APPLE please fix this soon! I didn’t expect to spend thousands on a phone and then it not work… my iPhone 11 worked better!!!!
