iOS18.0 Calendar App Won’t Allow Entry of Event Times Down to the Minute

After updating to iOS 18.0, the Apple Calendar app no longer will allow me to enter start/end times for events down to a specific minute (say 14:03 usin a 24 hr clock). Instead, after the upgrade to 18.0, the time thumb-wheel gui lets you tap on it to enter specific time but the when you start to type it collapses after allowing you to type only 1 number (which screws up the time value).

Are others seeing this behavior too?

Apple developers and beta testers should have caught this bug during beta testing. Hopefully, Apple software engineers will fix this bug in the next update or so.

Calendar freezes every time I try to enter/change information since 18 update! When can we expect a fix?

I was on the phone with Apple ALL DAY about this. I had to go as far as erasing all contents and settings and manually adding everything back (major pain in the you know what) and that STILL DID NOT FIX the calendar app. I can’t add events, it shuts down, it freezes. I’m running iOS 18.0.1 on the iPhone 16 pro max. There is NO fix until apple comes out with an update.

Try this:

Tap on the minute slider - this allows you to enter a single digit just as you have described. Enter ‘1’. You should then see the minute slider allows you to select the precise minute you want, so now you can set the hour and minute of the reminder.

But, this is a clunky bit of design. Would be much better if they did one of the following:

  • go back to single minutes - but to be honest, how many appointments don’t fall on a 5min border? I guess this new 5-min slider makes setting the time for most appts much quicker
  • dont reset the time to midnight when you type the single digit - so you can set the approximate time and then fine tune the last digit
  • tap and hold or drag the slider right to select smaller divisions
  • allow you to tap on the time to type an exact value

I have had major issues with my Pro 15 since upgrading to iOS 18. I should be a part time employee the number of times and hours spent trying to resolve this issue with Apple Support and in-store to be given the run around and the answer should not be buy a new phone.

The battery doesn’t hold, the phone over heats on the charger, the mag charger drains the battery, the calendar app freezes then crashes, I am unable to add to the calendar at all which means its no longer synching to my watch.

My phone has been reset at least 6 times, phone replaced and still no resolution. They say it’s one thing and it’s not it. I believe there is software issue potentially with gmail. I am a busy executive managing 10 calendars on my device so you can imagine the impact this has had.

My iPad Pro is having the same issues with the calendar if you put in a time after the first number it goes red and there is no scroll wheel available for time selection

If I take the iPad off the Smart Keyboard the scroll time is available

Picking a time for a calendar event is basic so a fix is needed urgently otherwise the calendar app is useless
