Pasting into multiple merged cells

I'm hoping the image attached isn't too large to see properly.

I'm altering the style of some of my spreadsheets. The table on the left is the new table. The cells I've selected in the image are merged cells (Columns B, C & D). The table on the right is one of my old tables. I want to copy and paste the information from my old table into the new one and delete the old one. The cells I'm trying to copy and paste are those under the heading notes (coloured white/yellow/green/blue). These cells in the old table are not merged cells.

When I paste, it unmerges the cells in the new table and makes quite a mess. I can copy and paste one note (line) at a time, but this is time-consuming and, more importantly, much more prone to error. Is there some key combination (I've tried paste and paste and match - ⇧⌥⌘V) or am I stuck with doing them one by one.

I understand the situation. It seems like I'll have to manually transfer everything, which might take a lot of time. However, once it's done, I won't have to deal with this issue again. I'd rather spend the time now than continuously face the problem of tables moving around and not returning to their original positions without my intervention when I enter data. I realise it might be hard to grasp, but it's frustrating for me when I switch between sheets and the tables aren't in the same position.
