Filtering Numbers spreadsheet by unique values

Here is one way to find unique values.

Formula in C2 is COUNTIF(B$1:B2,"="&B2)

Now a Filter:

Now you have unique Vendor Numbers.

Perhaps another user will call in with a more elegant solution.

A Pivot Table is another quick way to derive a list of distinct values. No formulas needed. And no filter that affects your original data table and then needs to be removed. Just a menu choice and a click-and-drag.

Click in the table with the data and in the menu choose Organize > Create Pivot Table > On Current Sheet.

The Pivot Options pane will automatically appear. Just drag the Vendor Number field down into the Rows box.

Then select the cells in the Pivot Table with the distinct values and copy-paste them wherever needed. Edit > Paste and Match Style is often the best option for the paste.

The original data table isn't affected and cleanup is simple. Just click the top left corner of the Pivot Table and hit the 'delete' key.

This also works in Excel and other spreadsheet apps.

Create a filter for "text is distinct". Copy the results and paste it to another table to create a list of the distinct values with the duplicates removed.
