Numbers for Bookkeeping

Background: I'm looking for an alternative to Quickbooks. I have a small business, (housing provider) and need to separate expenses by properties (class) to file my Schedule E's. I love QuickBooks, and have been using it since the 1990's, but recently I have noticed data issues--transactions not saved event though I was able to print out checks. I am just using it only for income/Expense Tracking. But QuickBooks now costs 1,200$/year for their basic program that has classes. It's basically a data base that can print checks.

Is there any Numbers Template that could do basically the same thing?

[Input] expense category/revenue category, class, date, and expense description. [output] reports by selecting time period class, and then sorting by expense/revenue categories. Add up revenues and expenses in each category. I know there are a lot of other business owners like me who just need a bookkeeping solution.

Maybe we could get to gather and pay someone to create a template solution using Numbers Worksheets?

It's theoretical possible to use a spreadsheet (Numbers or another app) to run your books.

But spreadsheet apps are not designed for that. Even if successful, it may not be worth the trouble.

If I were you, especially if I had a business depending on the results, I would stick to a tool suited for the task. Like Quickbooks. Or its competitors.

They cost more, but they'll get the job done.
