Hi,
Detach Audio must be done from the timeline, not the media browser. Otherwise "Detach Audio" will be grayed out.
If the above is not applicable to your situation, try deleting/resetting preferences, as that sometimes cures problems like this. To delete/reset preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen iMovie in in your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if you can detach audio. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes. Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.
Also, sometimes a glitch is specific to one project and will not appear in others. Try creating a new project and see if the Detach Audio feature works there.

Thanks, Rich. I'm an occasional user of iMovie so I discover these challenges along the way. I also spent a bit of time with Tech Support yesterday trying to fix a problem with the application crashing.
Grateful for your expertise and help.
Robert
You are very welcome. I hope that you will be able to resolve the issue.
