Email being deleted from multiple accounts

My wife and I have 3 gmail accounts that we have synced on our 4 Apple devices, 2 iphones and 2 iPads. We have been using the Mail app for years with no problems. After a recent update, emails are now being opened and or deleted in multiple accounts. For example, if we receive an email from a sender that is sent to both my email and my wife's, if either of us opens the email, it will also show as read in the others email. Same if I delete an email in my account, it will delete from my wife's. This has caused us both not to see some important emails. This has caused us to have to use a third party app until we can figure out how to resolve this problem.

Apple - This is a real issue!!!

in prior IOS versions (I believe 15 and lower) deleting an email from one email account did NOT delete it from another email account that is also set up in apple's mail application (and was on copy on the originally sent email). somehow rhe messages in different email accounts are linked so one affects the other.

for example, if i have my personal email account as well as another work email account both set up in Apples mail app, and i receive the same email message to both addresses, moving or deleting it from one of the two accounts also moves or deletes it from the second (other) account even-though the second account's email message may not have even have been read yet.

This issue is 100% reproducible.

Please have the courtesy to acknowledge this Bug and please also respond with detailed plans to fix, and when.

You've stated the same case I've brought up with Apple Support, in the Apple stores - and I get no where. They all deny there is a problem. I'm told I have to go to my "email provider," yet - the problem is only on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and not my computer. I've deleted so many emails by mistake because of this cross account problem Apple created with one of their IOS updates. Argggggg...... I've had to resort to only filing email via computer and my phone is basically unusable to do any emails, because I'm afraid I will delete another important "documentation" email that I must keep for future reference and use.

Apple get your -------------- togther and fix this ASAP with a correction IOS update.

No, I have not manged to fix this. I have not solution, other than don't use my iPhone for email any more!!!!

APPLE HAS NOT FIXED THIS ISSUE with an iOS update to my knowledge - it is still happening on my iPhone. I've basically had to stop using my iPhone for doing any email at all. I have to leave it in my Inbox. Period - or it disappears from my other accounts. I have to use my PC laptop to any Deleting, Filing, etc which sends us back to the stone age of technical advances.

I am all for technology advances - but APPLE this is UNACCEPTABLE - to ignore all the complaints, without even an acknowledgement that the problem exists and word that you will fix it in an upcoming iOS update. The almighty dollar speaks loud and clear here - you have NO respect for the millions of customers that have helped you obtain your big wallet of success. Arrrgggg!

I’m having the exact same issue. I have my personal email and my work email and if I want to CC myself on my other email for a bill that I got. I deleted from one of the emails they both get deleted. Also all of my folders now are missing all the emails over the last month. Now another issue that just happened with the new update is I used to be able to move an email conversation or file to a folder in the other email. And they’re not able to be seen on Apple mail folders. I have to log into my Gmail or 365 email to see those emails when they’re moved, but they’re no longer being able to see in the mail of Apple anymore. Very upset these young developers making these updates. They are thinking before they make changes anymore The repercussions is having on people. When they make these changes, it stresses a lot of people out and create a When they make these changes, it stresses a lot of people out and creates a lot more problems.

Apple is getting worse and worse. They did the same thing with Texting years ago, where they’re combining all the phone numbers into one texting message . So you’re no longer able to see which number that person text you from a lot of major bad changes in Apple.

Apple! This is a real issue my husband and I have individual Gmail accounts. Similar to the other user when I delete an email from my Gmail account on my phone which he has been copied into it disappears from his Gmail account on his iPhone. If this is an issue with software update 17.6 (he is still on 17.4.1) then this needs a bug fix immediately! This is causing major problems for as business wise.

Please Apple, fix this. I had hoped it would have been fixed in iOS 18, but that’s not the case. There is still an issue with emails being deleted from two accounts simultaneously. I have email forwarding set up for a reason. I want to be able to choose whether to delete emails from both accounts or from each account individually.

This isn't a solution, but if you look in the actual server you may find the email(s) you are looking for. I too am having the same issue, and after seeing Apple still hasn't addressed the problem I tried to see if there was something I can do on my end. There wasn't, BUT, I did find that my settings are set to 'Store deleted messages on the server' and never to delete them. So I went directly to my email's server and logged in and found a very important email I had been looking for since 10/22/24. I have a business so finding this email was hugeeee!

Here's how you can check your settings (I did this from my MacBook):

Open 'Mail'

Top left corner click on Mail

Drag down and click on 'Settings'

Click on 'Accounts'

Click on 'Mailbox Behaviors'

The last checkbox 'Store deleted messages on the server' should be checked

If it isn't checked then I would assume it won't be on the server.

Hope this helps (while they fix the bigger problems)

Well, I experienced the same symptoms as you have described and it was really confusing me. Through troubleshooting I found this:

Go to Settings, then Mail. In there you may see an option “Follow Up Suggestions” which is usually On by default. Turn this option off and then retest with the Mail app.

Once I had turned this option off all of my problems were resolved. Hopefully it will have the same result for you 🤞
