This seems to be a common issue with many suggested fixes. This is how to clear the unread message indicator. Press down on the watch crown to activate Siri. Ask Siri to read all unread messages. Siri usually finds a spam message. Once it is read, the message indicator is cleared. Works for me every time.

I found that there was one message very far down in my messages app on my watch that had the little blue unread dot. I don’t even remember ever seeing it on my phone. But I opened and deleted it, and now the message indicator no longer shows a new message.
This worked perfectly, thank you. It wasn't the end of the world but it was a little annoying so it's nice to have it gone :)
I tried this and Siri replied "you have no unread text messages" but the indicator still shows 3 unread messages. UGH

Same issue and Siri says that I have no messages or just spins. Super annoying and frustrating.
