Are there problems associated with using items like Descript, Chrome, etc. that are not vetted through Apple's app store?

To help someone with a project I would have to download and learn Descript on iMac (High Sierra 10.13.6) from that website. Are there issues or problems with downloading from non-apple sites or the app store?

I'm not familiar with Descript but I have several apps that I have downloaded from the developer's website. They include Chrome, Microsoft Office, Carbon Copy Cloner, Quicken and a few others. Be sure to download them directly from the developer website, not from a 3rd party site that claims to offer numerous apps and that may not be legitimate.

👋 Hey there ,

Before you download , I copied the link from the Descript help site stating that

Mac OS recommends 11.0 Big Sur and later .

There is a beta version for the web available as well . If you follow through with the download , do so in a secure manner … there are many third party domain tracking requests .⚠️
