Apple TV use with TCL TV

I recently purchased a TCL television from Costco and am using it with my Apple TV. GEN three. Although I have been able to activate features which allowed me to power down the television along with my Apple TV using my Apple TV, remote, consistency seems to be the issue. If it sits for several hours being turned off, I am then unable to power it back up. For period of time this seemed to work, but now it is not doing it with any consistency. Any suggestions?

OK - battery thing did not change anything. But, I switched from HDMI 1 to 3 and now it turns on and off with the Apple TV remote

OK - I finally got mine to work. I've got the Google TV version of the TCL (which is still android).

I kept searching for CEC and never found that in settings.

I did fine under Settings - Inputs - two options to let the TV power be controlled by the device (so sounds like friendly CEC language).

And it is working now for me.

Oddly enough, mine powers down, but doesn't power up (though mine is from Sam's). Another thread said to check the CEC setting (allow to control other devices - already on for me). Another mentioned low batteries. I know when I tried to train remote - the first button worked, but the second button in the training wasn't recognized at all, yet worked for navigation). Going to try the battery thing next
