Apple TV use with TCL TV

OK - battery thing did not change anything. But, I switched from HDMI 1 to 3 and now it turns on and off with the Apple TV remote

Apple TV box (3rd generation) [A1427 or A1469] (2012/2013) doesn’t support CEC. That came with later models.

OK - I finally got mine to work. I've got the Google TV version of the TCL (which is still android).

I kept searching for CEC and never found that in settings.

I did fine under Settings - Inputs - two options to let the TV power be controlled by the device (so sounds like friendly CEC language).

And it is working now for me.

Oddly enough, mine powers down, but doesn't power up (though mine is from Sam's). Another thread said to check the CEC setting (allow to control other devices - already on for me). Another mentioned low batteries. I know when I tried to train remote - the first button worked, but the second button in the training wasn't recognized at all, yet worked for navigation). Going to try the battery thing next

Well, I spoke to soon - still not powering up (though not sure what I observed - I think I didn't wait long enough to see the "can't find device" message from TV)

Also - have a 4K model that would turn on/off the previous Samsung model
