Issue with voice recordings on my iPhone

Help!!!! Somehow, the red voice recording thing records what I’m saying during text. I can’t figure out how I make it happen so I can’t figure out how to stop it! It sent a recording of me talking to someone and it has caused some issues. It happens randomly. It’s not the microphone on the text messages but somehow it activates. Once I do it, I try to replicate it and I can’t figure out how I did it! My husband also had it happen and he says it was when somehow he swiped up when texting…. There’s no way I’m accidentally pressing the plus sign, scrolling down to the Audio button, and clicking that. There has to be some other shortcut that is hijacking my text messages.

(The voice recording first happened because I handed my phone to someone to read a text and somehow it started recording our talking.)

I have an iPhone 15 and my husband has an iPhone 11. How can we get it to stop or delete the voice recordings all together?!??

I have been getting annoyed with this feature for a while now too and just finally figured out how to shut it off. I think it was the ‘Raise to listen’ option in your message settings. If you read the details, it says it will raise to listen and let you reply.

Settings > General > Messages - scroll to the bottom, and it should be the second toggle button from the bottom.

I literally know exactly what you’re talking about!! This happens to me allll the time when my texts are open but on accident. I’ve tried a million things to do it on purpose and I can’t ever get it! Just tried googling it and YouTubing it and it just says to press the plus button then audio record. Ever since the second to last update this has gone on and it’s annoying lol

Be Aware of Gestures:

  • In the Messages app, long-pressing the microphone icon usually starts voice recording.
  • Avoid unintentional long presses or swipes near the microphone icon.

If you accidentally send a voice recording, you have a few seconds to tap "Undo Send" to prevent it from being delivered.

Sometimes, certain settings in the Accessibility menu can inadvertently trigger voice recording. Ensure that there are no voice-related shortcuts or gestures enabled.
