how do I move from smtp (offline) to online in settings

Something has changed in the last couple of days, maybe with Apple. Emails stopped sending. I have reset time and time my credentials but when I edit server to use smtp, it keeps going back to smtp(offline). Has anybody figures out a way to fix this?

Thank you - I have tried various solutions, and my provider says it must be due to an update in apple.... I have deleted and re-added email addresses, but it seems that having more than one IMAP email address from one provider isn't sitting comfortably with Apple Mail. Very strange. It was Ok until a couple of days ago.

It's nothing to do with an Apple update or Apple Mail being "wrong" somehow as I have 5 email accounts with different providers and they're all working OK. Get back to your email provider's support team and ask them to do their job properly and support you. Clearly something has changed somewhere and it's probably something that's happened their end.
