Cannot open Quicktime Player

I have just worked out what the issue was - and this may be the same for all the others who are/were struggling with the same issue. User error !

When you click on Quicktime and it takes you to Finder where it has opened up an empty folder labeled Quicktime Player under iCloud, you need to look at the task bar at the very top of your screen, above/ outside the Finder and there you will see this below. So you just click on File and choose what you want eg New Screen Recording.

In general:

1. Find the QuickTime Player app icon in the Dock or in your Applications folder.
2. Double-click the app icon to launch the app.
3. QuickTime Player will start with an Open… dialog box. Click Cancel to ignore that.
4. Find the Menu bar along the top of the screen. Don’t click elsewhere at this time, or the QuickTime Player app might quit when it has no document windows.
5. From the File menu, choose Screen Recording to start a screen recording. You would see a controller bar in the lower half of the screen. Choose your options there.

I am having exactly the same problem. For me the issue is not playing clips on QuickTime but accessing the app so I can record my screen. For the life of my cannot work out how to launch it. Have read every chat about it and nothing works. Downloaded a new version. Am stumped!

When you launch the QuickTime Player application, then it will show this ‘Open…’ dialog box, where you may select a media file to open, or click Cancel to choose functions from the menu bar.

The ‘Open…’ dialog box will show the last used location, and will default to the QuickTime folder in your iCloud space the first time, which might be empty if you haven’t saved anything there. Use the sidebar to navigate to other file/folders locations in iCloud or on your computer’s disk.
