How to turn off Audio in Messages

For me is better to have the mic 🎤 in that spot, then the Voice sound recording on your texts. Turn off, then, turn on Enable Dictation under settings/keyboard. You will see the mic replacing the voice recording icon.

For me, the thing that fixed this was turning on “enable dictation” in the keyboard settings. I’m not sure why it was disabled, but that immediately replaced the squiggly red with the microphone.

No mike to tap on. Enable dictation took care of both issues. Removed the unwanted audio whatever it is and brought back the microphone.

This is achievable simply by tapping in the reply box to open the keyboard then tapping the microphone on the keyboard. I just did it on my iPhone with iOS 17.1.2

Press the plus sign and press and hold the "audio" and drag it down into the "more" area and it will go away. It makes the squiggly lines you posted turn into a microphone which just does the voice to text feature, not the stupid audio message.

Its an Apple knows better then you thing. Theres NO NO NO NO Way to do it. Apple dosen,t care. Just Like Live Photos. NO NO NO Way it just keeps coming back. So it uses your icloud Space. Always Remember Apple Knows Best.

I just held my finger on the audio till it floats then dragged it down to the more and its down at the bottom now.

This is one of the suggestions thatvactuallu worked, but you have to do it for every single text. I want to turn off texting audio ALL THE TIME. It’s a forced upgrade issue that I cannot tolerate. I turn it off and later today or tomorrow its right back.

Did not work on my iPhone 14. Does not matter where I put the word Audio. I haven't seen a mic in a few years, either; probably because I turned Siri and Dictation off.

I don't have a microphone icon on the keyboard.

Thanks much for the info too get those audio squiggly lines off the message line. What you suggested to do worked perfectly. I'm using an iphone11
