Can't drag the cursor up in text messages on new iphone 15 Pro iOS 17

I switched from my iphone 13 pro with iOS 17 (no problems with the upgrade) and now I've lost a bunch of features. This post is about typing a long enough text message so the beginning is hidden at the top. I can scroll to read the whole thing but I can't edit at the beginning. I push/hold on the message (or spacebar) and drag to the cursor to where I want it. I let go and it pops back down to a different part of the message. I don't need it often but it's something that Apple should be aware of if it's happening to others.

I updated my phone to iOS 17.1 yesterday (10/31/2023). It seems to have resolved both the drag and drop cursor issue and my stickers feature disappearing (different discussion). The Stickers would stop about a day after getting them to work again so I'm hoping they're good now. I was able to drag my cursor around in a long text as a test and that was just like it used to be (yay!), however, I haven't had to do that so it may have been fixed before 17.1. I hope the update works for all of you!

Agreed. It happened immediately after upgrading to IOS 17 for me. And to the person who said that the phone isn't designed for this - please! To ask a user to go to notes, compose, copy and paste is ridiculous. Texting was easier and more concise two operating systems ago. if Apple could do it then, they should be able to make it work now. They seem to be so obsessed with creating new features (that few people actually need) and in the process de-prioritize the proper functioning of basic device features. Look at the number of people talking about this here. Its important.

Tried everything from tips in this thread (very much appreciated, everyone!) plus others and some things worked - but only once. I have an iPhone 13 with iOS 17.1.2. I am the most Apple-savvy person I know and the go-to person for everyone in my family for everything Apple. This - and the other related issues people have brought up here - is absolutely a bug.

It's helping when I consider it a "feature" because my kids tell me my text messages are TLDR. Consider this a tip, lol.

Often I can insert the cursor before a whole word but it won’t let me go between letters in the word.

Also it has this habit of highlighting a whole word or a group of words, rather than letting me tap on a letter or between letters.

And finally, when I’ve located a spot and start to add in some text, when I look up I see it has moved me to the end of the paragraph and is putting my text there. ALL VERY ANNOYING!
