Can't drag the cursor up in text messages on new iphone 15 Pro iOS 17

I switched from my iphone 13 pro with iOS 17 (no problems with the upgrade) and now I've lost a bunch of features. This post is about typing a long enough text message so the beginning is hidden at the top. I can scroll to read the whole thing but I can't edit at the beginning. I push/hold on the message (or spacebar) and drag to the cursor to where I want it. I let go and it pops back down to a different part of the message. I don't need it often but it's something that Apple should be aware of if it's happening to others.

I updated my phone to iOS 17.1 yesterday (10/31/2023). It seems to have resolved both the drag and drop cursor issue and my stickers feature disappearing (different discussion). The Stickers would stop about a day after getting them to work again so I'm hoping they're good now. I was able to drag my cursor around in a long text as a test and that was just like it used to be (yay!), however, I haven't had to do that so it may have been fixed before 17.1. I hope the update works for all of you!

Here it is January 1st 2024 and I am researching how to fix this very annoying issue so many months later. I understand it’s not an absolutely immediate problem. But I am a talker with ADHD. I have to go back and edit almost all of my messages, so this makes it a daily issue for me. It’s another one of the many small functional issues iOS has that makes me miss android.

YES! i’ve been having this same problem since the new IOS.

in the beginning i was also having trouble with audio messages as well.

they would zero out even if it was a 2 min audio. or just disappear. i noticed when im recording i need to silence my phone because notifications will delete my audio.

so I haven’t been having any of those problems lately

but, now the biggest issue with audios I’ve been having is it saying it’s too long and asks me if I want to edit it but there’s no way to edit it. i had this issue with the iOS 16 as well and I found it very weird because my friend and I could send super long like 30 minute audio messages to each other (don’t judge that’s just how we love to communicate lol) and now it’s a problem. and there’s no such thing as editing it. idk why they keep showing that when you can’t.

BUT!! a big problem I’m having with the text messages that I’m not seeing anybody else talk about is when I do write a long message, I can no longer see the messages sent between me and the other person. And before I was able to scroll down on the screen and it would minimize the text box and I could see the messages perfectly fine, but now I can’t so if I’m replying to some thing, I can’t review anything that they said or whatever reason I wanna look back at the messages while I’m typing a longer text and I don’t know how to fix that and it’s driving me nuts!!

The fact that this thread was started on October 3 and there has been no clear fix that works for everyone is ridiculous. Imagine it being 2024 and you cannot send a text without using another app to edit it?

Messaging apps are designed to send short, quick messages. That means editing capabilities have always been limited and are simply not optimized for longer messages. I understand people use them in ways they weren't designed to be used and there's nothing wrong with that. But, expecting them to behave like email or text editing programs is bound to end in disappointment.

Yeah, it’s absolutely ridiculous, this is ever since the last update that I didn’t even want because every time I get an update something on my phone is messed up and it’s more difficult to use, I’ve never benefited from an update. I did get a free U2 song once, which would just play randomly out of my phone and embarrassed me that I would listen to music that bad.

So yes, I don’t know the name of the update, my phone wasn’t plugged in on purpose because I didn’t want it to update and I looked down it was updating and now when I make a text, I cannot move the cursor back up so I can correct a text message and it’s incredibly frustrating, INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING. How is this a helpful feature? I can’t stand it it’s so annoying please fix this, you guys screwed it up in the first place. Please fix it and put it back to the way it used to be..

I have this very same issue/problem. I normally wait longer to get the newest iPhone that is out due to there will be problems when they are first released (and it is not just Apple, it’s any and all new phones, that are released. If they never had any issues in the beginning then there would be no need for a lot of jobs to exist, plus as much as technology is great thing, it’s like human beings, all make mistakes. I did not wait as long as I normally would however my daughter had to have a new phone cause hers was shattered and not operating (she fell out of a tree stand at work and her side landed right on her phone. It was in her pocket, but the Dr said that it most likely saved her from breaking her hip, cause the phone took the brunt of that direct hit. So we had to do the upgrade and she did not want the 15 Pro Max and that is the one that was cheaper with it being new, than the rest of them, so she got my 14 Pro Max and I got the 15 Pro Max and I really thought it may have been enough time for the kinks and issues to have been fixed cause I had to do 3 software updates as soon as I turned the phone on, but no they have not all been fixed, and this problem with not being able to drag the cursor up to take out part of the text or to correct the text, is very frustrating, and annoying. I have tried EVERY way I know how and it does not work.

I'm not sure if mine is doing the same thing or not I'm gonna try to explain to you what it is doing and hopefully you will understand. It's kind of hard to explain. So I'll type a text message out. And there's a mistake let's say so. I put my finger next to the word that I want to Backspace to fix. And suddenly the whole sentence is highlighted with a dot at the beginning and the end of the highlight. I can't really explain what happens after that but if I hit the spacebar everything highlighted disappears. If I try to go just to the word I want it won't let me. I don't know what happened but it's been like this for about six months and I have no idea why. It did happen after I was jacking around with the settings at one point I remember, but I don't know what I clicked to make this happen and I just wanted to go away. Does this make any sense at all to you?
