Red dot above signal upper right corner dialing a call

When I try to call a certain person on my iPhone 11, a red dot appears above the signal bar in the upper right corner but it doesn’t ring and then goes to voicemail

The red or orange dot means the phone’s microphone is on, which is actually necessary if you expect the person you are calling to hear you. See→About the orange and green indicators in your iPhone status bar - Apple Support


It’s normally orange, but will appear red to provide contrast to the background color.
