How do I network with other computers in my home

1) Arrange with an Internet service provider to provide broadband access to your home.


Typically this is done by cable-TV plant or Verizon or other Fiber-Optic connection. If none available, you can use Digital Subscriber Loop (DSL) over your telephone line, provided you are within about two miles from the telephone Central Office Switching Equipment site. Other setups in more remote areas may require a satellite connection.


2) obtain a Wireless Router


This device connects to your ISP broadband connection on one side, and provides a wireless Internet connection (and Ethernet, if desired) to all your home devices on the other side, while maintaining order and priority so each device appear to have an always-on connection.


The wireless Router also contains a FireWall, that protects your devices from being accessed directly by bad actors on the Internet.

One you can connect each device to the Internet without re-cabling, you also have a private highway that can be used to send data computer-to-computer, using only the (normally invisible) Network Switch function embedded in your Router.
