Update security only iPad iOS 14.8 iPhone iOS 15.4

I saw something somewhere about being able to update only the security features on my iPad and iPhone without having to upgrade to a new iOS. When I looked at the Software Update on both devices, there was only a Download and Install option, which I assume means the whole upgrade package.

I’m on an iPhone 12 mini, and iPad Air.

thanks

iOS/iPadOS16 has introduced a new Rapid Response Updates - that provide a mechanism whereby an emerging threat/vulnerability can be addressed without releasing a full system software update. This feature is not available to devices that at are running earlier versions of iOS/iPadOS.
