Gen 2 AirPods Pro will not update Firmware

YES!! I have followed the "instructions" posted here and on Apple Support dozens of times to reset.

My AIrpods Pro 2 have been "waiting" for a firmware update for over a month. Still stuck on an early 5A377 version The later versions have a feature not in this version, namely enable/disable of volume slider and most importantly, volume slider sensitivity adjustment. BOTH these features are not in my current 5A377. I have tried at least a dozen force update "fixes" posted here by forum "specialists" as well as multiple YouTube "fixes" as well as fixes found on multiple other sites. I also have AirPods 1 and AirPods Pro originals which have NO PROBLEM updating firmware only these Gen 2 Pros seem stuck. Driving me nuts 'cause I need that missing feature.

Besides what I have noted above I have factory reset these things probably 20x according to instructions posted all over this forum and nothing helps.

You might also note, my Airpods Pro Gen 2 do not have a white flashing LED as noted in step 6 for resetting AirPods AFTER the AMBER LED no matter how long I hold down the button. They go from AMBER to GREEN while holding the button.

Hello…

I’m having the same problem. My AirPods Pro 2 will not update to the latest firmware. They are stuck on 5a377. I have tried everything suggested, but the firmware will not update. It is hard to believe there is not a way to force install the update.

THANKS, but NO. That’s just a regurgitation of what has been posted in 100 different ways from dozens of sources on the web including Apple. As I stated , “YES, I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ON APPLE SUPPORT (and elsewhere) MULTIPLE TIMES”

The issue was resolved with a new case. It’s the case that receives the downloaded firmware by BT and transfers it to the pods but was not. Apple sent me a new charging case and the problem was immediately resolved.

FYI…I recommend if you are purchasing AirPods online, please make sure it is from a reputable seller. I learned the hard way that the fake AirPods look very real and have a real serial number, but that same serial number may be used on many pairs of fake AirPods. The fake ones I received do work, but the functionality is very reduced and they don’t sound near as good as the real ones.

How can they be out of warranty? They were just released last September and have a 1 YEAR warranty.

Your next step would be to call them again and tell them exactly that and see what happens, even refer them to this thread. They put me through their scripts forever doing exactly what it says on their "help" pages and was copied and pasted a few messages back in this thread. Drove me nuts for almost 45 minutes on 1 of 4 calls. Fortunately for me I had AppleCare+ on them and on my 4th call I got a bit angry (which is permitted since I am 76yrs old :-) ) so they "preshipped" me a new case which resolved the issue. They knew it all along because the last guy I spoke with knew what the problem was. Also, if you know someone else with APP2 use their case (which would mean resetting their Airpods so you can temp pair yours on their case).

If it's still under warranty, which it has to be, you can also take them to a Best Buy "Geek Squad" counter which is what Apple Support wanted me to do but I refused since I have AC+ (and hate BB).

  1. Unpair your AirPods (forget them /remove from your Apple ID) with the case open and AirPods in it. Leave the case open
  2. After with case still open and the AirPods inside hold the light on the back to reset them for 15 secs. If you hold the button the full 15 secs it will go from white to amber to white again and you ll hear a ding to confirm.

Hope this helps you.

If they are under warranty have them send you a new case. If they don’t do that purchase an APP2 where it can be returned and test the theory. It’s possible once it’s updated it will work again with your existing case. I got lucky with support and found someone who knew what was up. The case “receives” the update by BT. If you are out of warranty you’ll have to get “creative” to resolve it. Definitely the case.

I visited the local Apple Store today and they informed me the AirPods Pro 2 I purchased are fakes. They are very good fakes, but fakes nonetheless. So, I determined how to use an Android app to update the firmware on the fakes, but the firmware is already up to date based on the Android app. I’m now trying to determine how to get my money back.
