Filenames and titles do not display in All Photos..

Was doing it before..i used the view-metadata-titles..does not work..i can see it when i use info..I am a photographer and i need it when i backup to my hard disks and my NAS..it is faster than having to use the search for a title .

I am still using Big Sur. Thanks

Thanks Old Toad!

  1. None of the photos had the titles . That library is on my Mac..I back up and keep the last year on it for printing and competition.
  2. I have 50000 +photos backed up with NAS, 2 SSD drives and an hard disk.. Only one of my SSD had the Photo Library ( from Apple ) backed up . Easier to edit with Photoshop.
  3. You are right about the NAS..all photos have to be exported ( JPEG and RAW ) on desktop and upload in folder in File Station ( by year) . I think it is impossible to back up the Photo Library on an NAS.. They can be viewed in Synology photos .
  4. I restarted my mac, run the disk utility and redid each view-metadata, one by one.. and i now have the titles .Must have been a bug..

Thanks . it was a fast reply and really appreciated . And all your comments were right on..that is what you are called Old Toad !

If you're interested in batch changing Titles of photos give these AppleScripts a look:

These and other scripts can be found in this user tip by léonie; Thematic Index to Photos for Mac related User Tips

Many of the script compileds as an applications can be downloaded from this tutorial site:  P01 - Applescripts from Photos’ User Tips Compiled as Applications

Do you see the Titles or file names in other views, like albums?

Where is your library located? If on an external drive how is the drive formatted and connected to your MacBP?

Try this: as a test launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it? This tells us if the problem is limited to your current library or is more wide spread. Then open your current library and check to see if the problem still persists.

FWIW Photos libraries must be on a volume formatted either APFS or OS X Extended (journaled) that's connected directly to the Mac via cable.

Are you backing up the library or just image files to your NAS? If it's the library you had better try to recover it once to make sure it will still work. NAS drives are not formatted for Photos Libraries.
