Can't open iTunes Library.itl in Music on new Mac.

New Mac running Monterey. Old Mac running High Sierra. I've copied the full library from the old Mac to an external disc and I'm trying to point the new Mac towards the iTunes Library.itl file to import the library. All that happens however is a spinning circle and "Loading", going nowhere. I've looked at the structure of the folder and it seems normal - I've never had it split between locations. (I've also tried deleting the existing Music folder and replacing it with the old one - Music opens up and asks me to choose a library, but this doesn't even result in the loading circle, it just doesn't work at all.)

Can anyone offer a solution? Thanks

iMac

Hello. I am in the same boat. I just pulled the trigger on upgrading my old MacBook Pro and Mac Pro machines running Mojave to a M1 MacBook Pro and Mac Studio, both on Monterey 12.6.2. My iTunes library is long standing and I don't want to lose date added, playlists or ratings, etc. My iTunes folder and library live in Dropbox. On my new Mojave MacBook Pro, I installed Dropbox and set my iTunes folder, media and library to be available offline so they are downloaded. Once all downloaded, I launched Music while holding the option key, selected the iTunes library file, chose a location to save the converted, and then Music won't complete "loading" with a spinning wheel. My library never appears. I have the option to upgrade to Ventura. Do you know if this issue was fixed in Ventura? Thanks in advance.

There seems to be a particular issue with Monterey 12.6 not converting .itl files correctly. Workarounds are to import an XML version of the library (which resets date added), import the media only (losing ratings, playlists, playcounts, date added, etc.) or perform the library conversion using Catalina or Big Sur (media not required). If you don't have access to a suitable machine, or a helpful friend, then I'm happy to volunteer. I've converted a number of libraries for other users via an exchange of emails. You send me your .itl file, or link to a copy of it in iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc. I will use Catalina to generate a .musiclibrary version and post a link back to you. You'll find my email address in my profile here.
